Volunteer!!

Overlander Ski Club, and the Stake Lake Cross-Country Ski area would not exist if it were not for the tireless work of numerous volunteers.  Aside from two seasonal employees who primarily work the ticket booth during the winter season, and a handful of ski instructors, Stake Lake Ski area is almost entirely run by volunteers.  The Club is always seeking more help to help in a variety of ways and to help us further realize our mission:

 

 "To promote and encourage recreational and competitive cross-country skiing at all levels and for all ages in the Thompson area of British Columbia."

 

 

There are plenty of ways in which your time can help make a big difference in making the cross-country ski experience even better.  

 

Coaches and Assistant Coaches

 

With about 100 kids participating in the Ski League Program, twenty volunteer coaches and assistants are needed for our programs. Get involved and make a difference in your community!

 

Training is free, with courses offered through CCBC. A binder has been developed with lesson plans and other resources that make it easy to plan and organize. We also offer a free clinic date with the Regional coach to help you improve your skiing technique and coaching skills. 

 

Other Volunteer Opportunities

 

Not able to coach?  Please contact any of the Club executive or take a look at the volunteer sign up sheets in the Ski Lodge to find out how you can be involved. Consider some of these other volunteer opportunities within the club:

 

- Trail grooming (ever want to operate a snow groomer?)
- Trail patrolling

- Special Events and Race Volunteers

- Joining the Club Board of Directors (we are always seeking new ideas and input)

- Joining one of our committees

- Hot Chocolate Coordinator

- Rental Equipment coordinator

- Terrain Park Development

- Helping with the club website

- Odd jobs (everything from getting firewood to clearing trails)

- Helping with club communications (email and telephoning) to let members know what is going on

- and many more interesting opportunities that allow you to meet great people, make the cross-country ski experience better, perhaps learn something new, and feel great!

 

There's always a couple places in which the club could use some extra help.  Lend a hand and help make the cross-country ski experience at Stake Lake even better.
